An archive of everyday experience, a ritual to partake in consistently, and a coping mechanism through which to enjoy existence. Writing, drawing, objects, and ritual are cornerstones of my work. It is the concepts of these pillars that interest me most.
Writing is a means of communication that has allowed humans to create nuanced and refined interactions, this interaction is present in my work. Drawing is in all my recent work, whether it is sculpture, paper, or ceramics. It is a natural response to life; it flows out of me as instinct. Objects are the surrounding theme and product of my work; I view my work as company that is with us throughout life as comforters. My drawings and sculptures are attempts to create objects or recreate the feelings they bring. Lastly, ritual, such as the use of icons and repetitiveness is a means to recreate the stability that helps us through life. My past work led me to these concepts when I began creating with the idea of gendered architecture in the fall of 2019.
My drawings, on paper or other material use an array of mark-making, naïve style, iconic imagery, systems such as the grid and colour to create what is now an archive of drawings both ceramic and wooden objects as well as paper. Queerness is expressed through stylization and colours. Other aspects of my life are shown in the systems and conceptual content. My work finds context parallel to queer television, music, and social media, it’s where space has been made for me and where I feel like I can create space for others.
