The Liminality Project is a community-building and educational endeavour comprised of zines, printed ephemera and a website and the work of which took place throughout an entire year. Looking at the concepts of intersectionality as well as the Liminal self, the Liminality Project aims to find ways to create a space where people of colour and mixed-race individuals can take a moment to reflect upon their own experiences.
The Project allows the viewer to consider how they interact with the world, how the world perceives themselves and their bodies, and highlights the importance of finding community within and representation of marginalized
groups. The Project’s initial conception was sparked by an interest in the intersections of identity that are inherent within BIPOC and mixed-race individuals, and the desire to create a safe space to explore these ideas beyond coloniality.
The Project is comprised of three components:
The Liminality Project is an opportunity to learn; it is a space to explore without judgement. Ultimately, its purpose is to allow BIPOC folks the chance to reflect on the bittersweetness, nostalgia, and joy of overlapping identities and cultural influences.
