The pandemic we are living through impacts the whole world. Even some of the simplest tasks – like going to the grocery store to get produce, cannot be done the way they were done before. Lockdowns greatly limit gatherings and the use of public spaces, like art galleries, meaning works made for gallery spaces are primarily viewed online.

This new way of living heavily influenced my decision to work with stop motion animation for this project.  I wanted to create a series of works that weren’t reliant on a public space for viewing. While in the future this project could be shown in a gallery using a combination of projected film and small displays, for the moment, my stories are easily accessible from the safety of private spaces, through the power of YouTube.

Pint-Sized Pandemonium is a four-part series of relatable, autobiographical moments told through the experiences of Baby Dr. Plague, Lil’ Robber, and Peaches the Puppy. It is written as fiction, with a dash of stress-relieving humour. The characters are constructed with wire and silicone, allowing for easy movement while filming. The sets are designed using a combination of digital illustrations, specially constructed laser-cut props, and various found objects. The series is filmed using my cell phone camera, and Stop Motion Studio App. Further editing and illustrated animations are added using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
